At first glance, It Follows appears to take place in modern day. However, minor details scattered throughout the movie make the setting more ambiguous. Characters exclusively watch the aforementioned 1950s b-movies on TV, yet they also have access to technology that doesn’t yet exist in the real world. The redesigned poster is meant to reflect this collapsing of time periods that occurs within the movie.
